PRACTICAL WORLD BEAT STUDIES

Over the course of my life I have studied many musical traditions from all over the world and because of my work I have been very blessed to have actually gone to Senegal, South Africa, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Guatemala, and so many more places where I have been privileged to observe these musical traditions where they are in real time.
In this course we will focus on the three rhythms that I have been required to reproduce on my instrument most often.

    If there is one great grandfather of Jazz in America and the concept of clave in Cuba and the surrounding region it is this rhythm. It is a fantastic exercise in coordination as well as an interesting shuffle substitution. An ensemble of drummers perform this rhythm where it is from.
